Our family had an amazing Christmas that was spent with family, friends and even Santa made an appearance on the farm on Christmas Eve! We made some wonderful memories and will cherish them and continue our family traditions which include sending love filled helium balloons to heaven to my nephew, Brandon!
One of the best surprises we could have asked for was the visit of our daughter, Ashley and her beau for New Year's! They arrived on New Year's Eve after their plans of coming on the 30th were disrupted. But all was great! They made the 6 hour trip safe and sound and arrived to hugs and of course tears of happiness from me!
You see, when I say "our daughter" it is technically Billy's oldest daughter who has grown up in Michigan with her birth mother. I do not believe in being labeled as "stepmom" or "stepdaughter" or "step family"...in my eyes, she is just "my daughter by marriage!"
Ashley came into my life when she was just a bright eyed, bushy tailed, little 2-year old blonde with adorable little curls who instantly had a bond with me from the first time we met. My husband has told me that it was that first meeting of Ashley and me that really made him fully realize that I was, indeed, the one for him!! Yes, I know cue the *sighs*...
Let's flash forward to many, many years of visits and new additions and happiness and it brings us to Ashley and Andrew's first visit as a couple!
Andrew is an amazingly strong, independent young man who makes Ashley smile like no one I've ever seen! Her eyes light up when he is in the room and he literally treats her like a princess and of course, when he sees her it's obvious that his heart "skips a beat!" They have such joy and happiness with one another even though they are only 18 and 19 years of age. Young love and your first "real" relationship is something that you never forget and I was able to document some of the happiness with their "couple" pictures!
Throughout the visit I was able to get to know Andrew and believe it or not even his amazing mother, Amy! She is definitely one of my favorite people in the world! We have corresponded with one another every day from December 30th and still to this day and I am sure we will continue to do so as two of the most important people in our lives mean so much to all of us!
These kids are beating the odds with some obstacles in their way but as I have told them the way they handle these obstacles will help them become the individuals and the couple that they were meant to be.
In getting to know Andrew and his mom and of course knowing Ashley the way we do we have openly welcomed him into the family with open arms and we are very excited for their next visit in the upcoming months!
I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed capturing the pure happiness and joy in their hearts when they are with one another! They say a "true" smile reaches your eyes but it also reaches your heart and these few photographs are the proof of that simple little thing called, Young Love!
